Party BBS Information
Hi...glad you are at our party. Come on in!
If you want to be a ghost and cruise around and not talk to people, feel free to do so. But I hope you will want to chat with me and others at the party, no matter the time interval, and to do so you have to sign up so people can get back to you. Just click on the "New User" button to get yourself set up.
You can read messages without logging in, but you can't post messages to the board or send private mail to folks. Registering requires a name, password, and email address, but please be assured that no one will see your email address unless you explicitly post it! There is private mail available within the system for people who sign up, so you can privately communicate without revealing your email address to the world.
When you first log in, you will be brought to your "My Home" page. There's nothing much in there to begin with, but it's a place where you can leave any info you want people to see: your full name, bio, home page, etc. - you can even give your ICQ number, and it will monitor it for you while you're logged in. But you don't have to do anything at all. Click on "Main Index" to rejoin the Party!
Once you are in the party, you can search for people whom you might like to talk to, including me, and roam around picking up a conversation wherever. If you read a message and want to join the conversation, just use the "reply" button.
If you want to send someone a private message, click on their name, either in a message heading or from the "User List" page, and you'll see their info and a button for sending a private message. This is not an email - this is internal mail within the Party system, and the recipient will be notified that they have a message by a flashing envelope icon in the upper left of their screen. They will also get an email from the system notifying them that they have a private message on the Party board.
Notice the "Search" button - it is a very flexible feature. You can search for text in the message, or a username, in one forum or all.
We encourage you to send pictures or short videos (under 100K), if you wish, but we may have to limit the space if we run out of disk storage.
This is a global party lasting one week, until 29 January, and people will be coming and going at all time zones. We expect most if not all conversations will be in English, like the books, but if some are otherwise... that is fine too.
