Special Conference on Information Technology from Taipei, Taiwan www.worldcongress2000.org/en/event/webcasting.html This congress is being held June 11-14 with an outstanding list of speakers: Gates, Thurow, Chambers, Fiorina, etc. Internet streaming is concurrent with the talks and covers, in most cases, the first five minutes. And speakers seem to have been encouraged to present a short abstract of their entire talk in the first segment. Talks are being held in an archive for later access. Streaming, even on slow connections, seems to work very well using Microsoft Media Player 6.4, a newer version 7.0 or even newer with 8.0 beta. Free downloads of the Player are available at here. This conference has merit for its content and the special importance of Taiwan to the IT industry. For example, a Taiwan company executive reminded me, via his presentation, that Taiwan companies can not afford to concentrate only on core technologies because of the smaller (than the rest of the world) local market but also to be ready for unpredicted shifts in markets elsewhere. And the conference demonstrates acceptance of a mix of human presence and internet access which is quickly becoming common. Thanks to Gottfried Mayer, editor of Complexity Digest, for videoing important portions of the May International Complexity Conference and pointing out this meeting to me. - Dean LeBaron ---------------------------
