Internet to the (Kids') Rescue
(5 December 1997)

When I received this short report from Nepal today, I thought that if impoverished kids in Kathmandu find that surfing helps them discover a world beyond their previous imagination, investment people can.

Sent to me: "Someone donated a couple of old computers to our houses, and the kids are wild about using them. Last week, I took three girls and three boys to a newly-opened cybercafe in downtown Kathmandu to learn the Internet, and they got so involved, they wouldn't even break for lunch. We want our kids to be ready for the world as it will be in the future."

This comment from a friend who runs an orphanage there, the Nepalese Youth Opportunity Foundation, illustrates the Internet's capability to be global, educational, fun, instantaneous, cheap and wondrous.
